Lecture: Women in Computer Science: Navigating the Masculinist World of Artificial Intelligence
Start Date: 2/22/2017Start Time: 12:30 PM
End Date: 2/22/2017End Time: 2:00 PM

Event Description:
Sonia Rai, Technology Coordinator for the School of Arts & Humanities, will bring a talk about "Women in Computer Science: Navigating the Masculinist World of Artificial Intelligence." Artificial Intelligence (AI) involves teaching computers about our world through massive sets of data, but who is doing the teaching? Women represent a mere one quarter of computer professionals. Yet IT jobs are predicted to increase 22 percent through 2020. Artificial or Augmented Intelligence is forecast to be the catalyst that transforms our world dramatically as the industrial revolution. Our lecture seeks to define AI and identify the prominent contemporary women in the AI field. Our goal is to provide a conduit for raising awareness regarding the gender imbalance and encourage more women to enroll in Computer Science classes at Lehman College and beyond.
