Event Description Paula Loscocco (Associate Professor, Dept. of English) explores the Revolution-era African and American writer whose sophisticated dialogue with the seventeenth-century epic poet John Milton enabled her to develop a discourse of radical religion, republican government, and evangelical authority. In her poems, Wheatley simultaneously calls an ideal Anglo-American culture into being and denounces the existing state of American cultural and civil injustice and hypocrisy.
