Event Description Presented by Terrence Cheng (Associate Professor of English and Associate Dean of the School of Arts and Humanities). Prof. Cheng is working on a collection of short stories set in Chinatown, NY. The work incorporates the history of Chinatown and the Chinese in America, and also deals with contemporary history, i.e. the 9/11 attack and how it affected Chinatown, and events such as the Golden Venture running aground in Rockaway Beach in 1993. The goal of the collection is to create a kaleidoscopic view of life in Chinatown for Chinese immigrants struggling to find a new and better life in America. |
