Event Description Celebrate National Poetry Month with Distinguished Professor Billy Collins as he is joined by poet, translator, and two-time National Book Award nominee John Balaban (Poet-in-Residence, N.C. State University) for a reading and discussion about poetry and writing. Billy Collins has published 13 books of poetry and served two terms as the U.S. Poet Laureate. He has received fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts, the Guggenheim Foundation, and the New York Foundation for the Arts. His latest book of poetry is Horoscopes for the Dead. John Balaban is the author of twelve books of poetry and prose, including four volumes which together have won The Academy of American Poets' Lamont prize, a National Poetry Series Selection, and two nominations for the National Book Award. In 1998 Balaban received the William Carlos Williams Award from the Poetry Society of America. He was a 2003 Fellow of the John Simon Guggenheim Foundation, and the 2001-2004 Phi Kappa Phi “National Artist.” Sponsored by City and the Humanities, and the School of Arts and Humanities. |
