Hispanic Film Festival


The Department of Languages and Literatures invites you to join us for our Hispanic Film Festival. Every Wednesday from September 7th to October 5th we will screen a selection of great Latin American films. The movies will be screened in the Lovinger Theatre September 7th – Who is Dayani Cristal? (Mexico) September 14th – The return (Costa Rica) September 21st – With my heart in Yambo (Ecuador) September 28th – Here and there (USA, Spain, Mexico) October 5th – Chinese take-away (Argentina) FREE ADMISSION. Friends, classmates, colleagues, and family members are welcome!

The Herbert H. Leadership Program will host this workshop aimed at helping student learn the anatomy of an effective presentation; how to master the three components of successful presentations; ways to manage anxiety and stress; and strategies to handle difficult questions.

The Urban Male Leadership Program Distinguished Speaker Series and the Dept. of Latin American, Latino, and Puerto Rican Studies present: A Tribute to Hispanic Heritage Month with The Honorable Fernando Cabrera (New York City Council Member, Bronx District 14). 

Council Member Cabrera 
serves as a Chair on the Committee on Juvenile Justice and holds membership on several other important committees. Councilman Cabrera's committees include Higher Education; Veterans, Fire & Criminal Justice Services; General Welfare; and Parks & Recreation.

Women's Studies Fall Lecture Series with Prof. Alexandra Coller on 'Transgression and Textual Peformance: Margherita Costa'

Professor Alexandra Coller, an assistant professor in the Department of Languages & Literatures, will present on "Transgression and Textual Performance: Margherita Costa (c.1600-c.1664) and the Italian Baroque." Margherita Costa, poet,virtuosa, and Roman courtesan is arguably the most prolific secular woman writer of the early modern world. This lecture investigates some of her published work while it seeks to situate her within the context of the Baroque period. Costa traveled and wrote over a period of more than twenty years across the European continent. Her dedications provide testimony of her illustrious entourage at the courts of the Medici in Florence, the Barberini in Rome, the French Queen in Paris, and the Savoy in Turin. Professor Coller's talk is part of the Women's Studies Fall Lecture Series.
