CUNY Sexual Health Summit

Lehman College and Power to Decide will host the first CUNY Sexual Health Summit to deliver information on best practices for sexual well-being during the lifespan, disease prevention, reproductive justice, and health equity in our communities. New York State Senator Gustavo Rivera, chairman of the Committee on Health, will deliver opening remarks. 

This event, which is free and open to the public, is sponsored by Lehman College’s Division of Student Affairs, Student Health Center, Wellness Education and Health Promotion Program, and Power to Decide, a non-profit organization founded in 1996 to reduce the number of teen pregnancies. 

The program will begin at 11 a.m. with a Sex Education Fair in the lobby of the Music Building, followed by a panel discussion with experts in the East Dining Room from 1-3 p.m. The event will culminate with a private Q&A where students may ask panelists questions from 3-5 p.m. 


Featured Panelists: 

FRANCISCO RAMIREZ earned his Master of Public Health degree from Columbia University's Mailman School of Public Health where he was named a Rosenfield Scholar in Sexual and Reproductive Health.

For 20 years, Francisco has dedicated his career to responding to the sexual health and public health needs of diverse communities worldwide.

He is a frequent speaker on sexuality education, sexual violence, and diversity and inclusion. He is co-founder of the newly released sex education app OkaySo and sits on the advisory board of Circle of 6, a sexual assault prevention app with users in 36 countries.

ELISE SCHUSTER is a sexuality educator with 15 years of experience in pleasure-based sex education and youth development. Schuster co-founded and serves as CEO of OkaySo, a sex education app.  Schuster is a Startup Leadership Program Fellow and a recipient of the InnovationNext grant funding innovative approaches to teen pregnancy prevention.

DR. RAFFAELE M. BERNARDO is associate professor at Albert Einstein College of Medicine. He specializes in infectious diseases and internal medicine.

STUART CHEN-HAYES is professor and program coordinator of the counselor education/school counseling/ bilingual counseling program at Lehman College. He has experience as a counselor in middle school, college student affairs, sexuality, family and couple, community mental health, and addiction counseling settings. He is a school counseling program consultant in K-12 school districts in New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware, and Connecticut.

Sociology Department: Fall Colloquium "Power to the People"
Diana Hernandez, assistant professor of sociomedical sciences at Columbia University, will be the guest speaker at the Sociology Department's Fall colloquium. The title of the event is "Power to the People: Exposing America's Hidden Energy Crisis in the Bronx." 

Hernandez (PhD) focuses her work on the social and environmental determinants of health by querying the impacts of policy and place-based interventions on the health and socioeconomic well-being of vulnerable populations.
