OBSESIÓN, Danny Rivera’s new album with Nelson González, marks a new turn in his career as he returns to the repertoire of the great Latin American songbook, singing great songs by iconic composers with a stripped-down cast of the music’s most knowledgeable veterans. Piano Trio Concert Featuring Music by Ravel, Haydn, and Schumann
2:00 PM - 3:30 PM

Violinist Carmit Zori, cellist Marcy Rosen, and pianist Molly Morkoski present an afternoon of trios by Ravel, Haydn, and Schumann. This year marks the 100th anniversary of Ravel's important, colorful, and highly virtuosic trio, which was written during the onset of World War I and completed before the composer enlisted.

The Haydn trio in F-sharp minor, written in 1794, is one of his later works. In it, the slow movement has a more romantic melodic and harmonic construction than his earlier works. Lastly, Robert Schumann's Fantasiestücke is a lovely and virtuosic set of three short works for cello and piano.

Please join Ms. Zori, Ms. Rosen, and Professor Morkoski for this free performance.

In this quantitative study, I compare mothers who were the first in their families to attend college to mothers whose families had a tradition of college-going.

Concert - Lehman College Community Band
2:00 AM - 4:00 AM

BRONX, NY—The Lehman College Community Band will celebrate the fall season with “Autumn Acorns,” a free concert featuring a cornucopia of music from around the world. This performance, which is free open to the public, will take place on Sunday, October 26, at 2 p.m. in the Lovinger Theatre, on the Lehman College campus.

Directed by Professor Alan Hollander, the program will feature the romantic and captivating Overture to Oberon by Carl Maria von Weber, in contrast with Ottorino Respighi’s masterfully orchestrated, dark and dramatic Pines of the Appian Way. The centerpiece of the program will be Adam Gorb’s Awayday, an exhilarating and often frantic modern work. Also to be performed are Second Century March by Alfred Reed, Fete-Dieu a Seville (Feast Day in Seville) a colorful depiction of a peasant’s walk on a religious feast day by Isaac Albéniz, and an eclectic trio of songs from William Walton’s Façade, originally written to accompany a cycle of poems by Edith Sitwell. Rounding out the program will be Alexandre Guilmant’s Morceau Symphonique, featuring baritone horn soloist Walter Barrett.

The Lehman College Community Band includes students, alumni, faculty, staff, and community members.

2014- 2015 Arts and Humanities “Works in Progress" Lecture Series
12:30 PM - 2:00 PM

WHEN: October 29, 2014, 12:30-2PM WHERE: Art Department Room FA005 WHO: Herbert R. Broderick, Professor, Art Department TALK: A Hellenistic Moses in Anglo-Saxon England OVERVIEW: The talk will be based on my forthcoming book to be published by the University of Notre Dame Press (no date yet for publication) entitled – Moses the Egyptian in the Illustrated Old English Hexateuch (London, British Library Cotton MS Claudius B.iv) – where I demonstrate that Moses is depicted with 10 distinctive attributes in this mid-11th-century Anglo-Saxon manuscript, including the first extant example of Moses shown with “horns,” a motif familiar to many people from Michelangelo’s famous statue of Moses in Rome. The majority of these attributes can be shown to be derived from late Romano/Egyptian art associated with the representation of generals, kings, and priests.
