5:00 PM - 7:30 PM | 'Made in NY' Production: Tio Papi (AKA Uncle Daddy) In an effort to allow residents opportunities to see productions that were filmed in their neighborhoods, the Mayor’s Office of Media & Entertainment and Lehman College, in association with Latin Media & Entertainment Commission will present a screening of TIO PAPI (aka Uncle Daddy), a film shot entirely in Washington Heights and featuring local small businesses like The Coral Restaurant.
Following the screening there will be a Q & A with writer, producer, and actor Joey Dedio and other members of the cast and crew.
Synopsis: It was a bachelor’s life for hard-working and fun-loving Ray Ray Dominguez (Joey Dedio) who dreams of leaving the barrio for a more carefree existence in Miami. That’s until one day when everything changed – and he became a reluctant “Tio Papi” aka Uncle Daddy to his sister’s six children ages six to 16. Now, in charge of raising this energetic (and expensive) clan, Ray Ray must make important decisions on what life really is all about. Combining heart-warming drama with light-hearted comedy, TIO PAPI, directed by Fro Rojas from the original screenplay by Joey Dedio and Brian Herskowitz, is an upbeat story of life’s unexpected surprises and ultimately what matters the most – the love of family.
This event is presented by the Mayor’s Office of Media &
Entertainment and Lehman College in association with the Latin Media
& Entertainment Commission in honor of Hispanic Heritage Month. | Carman Hall |

12:30 PM - 2:00 PM | Science, Pseudoscience, and all that Jazz This lecture by Professor Massimo Pigliucci (Chair, Philosophy Dept.) is part of the Arts and Humanities' Works in Progress Lecture Series.
"The demarcation problem — the attempt to logically separate science from pseudoscience — has come to be seen as a nostalgic issue good for thinkers still infatuated with Popper, or as demonstrably irresolvable and even best avoided after Laudan’s famous critique. This is somewhat strange, considering that there seems to be clear distinctions between typical pseudosciences, say like astrology or homeopathy, and obviously valid forms of science, like fundamental physics or evolutionary biology. We live in a world in which the label of “science” has social cachet, and often brings in a large amount of resources. The homeopathy industry, for instance, is a multi-billion dollar per year production that literally gives nothing in return to the public, and in some cases positively endangers people’s health and lives. In light of all the above, I re-analyze both Popper’s original concept and Laudan’s argument for why demarcation is impossible, attempting to move past both through a discussion of a more complex landscape of philosophical possibilities." | Music Building - (313) Music Building

For the company’s Bronx debut, audiences will be treated to the Chinese folkloric equivalent of Romeo and Juliet—a poignant love story that dates to the Tang Dynasty. The Butterfly Lovers follows a young couple’s ill-fated romance through elegant choreography, splendid costumes, and evocative sets depicting the natural—and supernatural—worlds. The company’s masterfully trained dancers convey the story’s bittersweet beauty with expressive hand gestures and theatrical pantomime, evocative complements to their stunning classical technique.

12:30 PM - 2:00 PM | Lecture: "The Disconnect Between Statutory Rape Laws and Prostitution Laws".
Because of the inconsistencies between state and federal laws, some minors engaged in prostitution are still being prosecuted even in states with safe harbor laws. This phenomenon occurs despite of the fact states having statutory rape laws that restrict a minor’s ability to consent to sexual relations. The news media has reported on a few cases that exemplify this issue. The articles covered report victims as young as ten years old being prosecuted for prostitution despite the fact under the state’s same statutes; they were too young to consent to sex. The intent of this paper is to study apparent disconnects between prostitution and statutory rape laws and argue for consistency amongst state laws. Part I of this paper will provide a history of domestic minor sex trafficking including an analysis of federal and state laws. When analyzing state laws, current conflicting prostitution and statutory rape laws are included in the analysis. Part II will provide a critique of approaches, statutes and cases including considerations that are missing from opinions or legislative history. Part III of this paper details recommendations for further policy, legislation, etc. This paper argues that current federal and state laws with the exception of a few do not provide enough protection to minors who are victims of trafficking. Without consistency in the laws, minors will continue to be treated as criminals instead of victims of exploitation.

8:00 PM - 10:00 PM | Tango Fire One of the most alluring and exciting dance forms, tango embodies sensuality, intrigue, and lust, all conveyed with raw energy and knife-edge precision. Tango is rightly considered Argentina’s cultural gift to the world. The Tango Fire Company of Buenos Aires brings this smoldering art form to the stage with twelve spectacular dancers and a quartet of brilliant musicians, tracing the history of the art form from its origin on the streets of Buenos Aires through its evolution to contemporary ballroom styles. The success of Tango Fire has been phenomenal; the company has toured the USA, Canada, Australia, Europe, Asia and South Africa to wide acclaim. Led by Director of Choreography German Cornejo, known for his recent winning appearance with partner Gisela Galeassi on Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony’s Q’Viva!
