New York City Human Library/Call for Participants

Lehman College's Leonard Lief Library is partnering with the New York City Human Library [https://www.humanlibrarynyc.org/] for an online Human Library event:

  • Sunday, January 24, 2021
  • 2:00 - 4:00 PM
  • Zoom

What is the Human Library?
The Human Library is an organization that began in Denmark in 2000 and now has chapters [called Depots] all over the world.  In a Human Library, real people are “Books” on loan to Readers, giving Readers the opportunity to listen to their stories first-hand.

Human Library NYC public events break down social barriers by providing a safe platform for individuals to challenge their own stereotypes and prejudices.

If you would like to register to be a
Book or a Reader - please fill out this Interest Form:

What is a Book in the Human Library?

Book is a volunteer who represents a stigmatized group, willing to share their story, and help challenge what is being shared and understood about their topic.

What is a Reader?

Reader is curious about the Book, can ask questions of the Book, and is respectful of the Book they are reading.

Your Story is Important.

Teaching and learning webinar: “Jump-starting Course Development: Using the Lehman Online Course Template”
What is the most efficient way to develop my course in Blackboard? How can I design a class site that looks professional and easy to navigate without spending too much time and effort? What is the most user-friendly course environment that can support my students’ learning?

Developing a Blackboard class site, whether to complement a face to face course, or to provide for a fully online or hybrid course, can be a time-consuming and daunting project. It involves the careful selection of tools and features, some degree of design and technical expertise, and repetitive procedures to ensure consistency of layout. The Lehman Online Course Template is a simple means to dramatically streamline this development process and reduce the time needed to prepare class sites. The template provides a clear, visually pleasing, and consistent layout which can then be customized to meet faculty and student preferences.

During this webinar, we will introduce you to the features of the Lehman Online Course template and take you step by step through the process of applying it to the development of a class site.

Join us on May 14, 2020, 12:00 to 1:00 pm for “Jump-starting Course Development Using the Lehman Online Course Template,” a lunchtime webinar. Our faculty co-host will be Kenneth Weisshaar, Adjunct Assistant Professor, Philosophy, who will share his expertise and experience.

Note: all registrants receive a webinar recording, a written summary and the presentation slides.

About the webinar series: These hour-long webinars are conveniently delivered online each month during the academic year, and are easily accessed from desktop, phone, or tablet. Webinars are facilitated by the department of Online Education staff and each features a presentation by a faculty co-host with expertise on the topic. Attendees have time at the end of each webinar to comment, share their views, and to ask questions of presenters. Watch for our announcements of upcoming webinars.
