Radio Jarocho plays the rowdy, upbeat, and at times melancholic music of the countryside of Veracruz, Mexico, called son jarocho, and has been mixing it with the sounds of New York’s urban life for over ten years. 6:15 PM - 8:40 PM | Celebrating the Life of Ntozake Shange: An Evening of Poetry, Performance The Women’s Studies Program and English Department will celebrate the life of award-winning author Ntozake Shange with a special evening dedicated to poetry, performance, and music. Shange was an American playwright and poet frequently recognized for her play "For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide/ When the Rainbow Is Enuf."
The program will feature performances by Cassandra Cato-Louis, claude e. sloan, Arturo Lindsay, Mariposa Fernandez, Chandra Grosvenor Brown, Flemmie Kittrell-Williams, Luz Rodriguez, and Susan Watson Turner.
