Second Annual Global Citizenship Gala
6:00 PM

The Lehman College Office of Community Engagement & New Student Programs is proud to announce our 2nd Annual Global Citizenship Gala. We hope you will be able to attend in support of a program that has truly changed the lives of hundreds of students over the past 8 years! The gala will take place at the Villa Barone Manor, Thursday, May 7, 2015 at 6:00P.M. We will honor three outstanding members of our community who make a difference locally and globally. Elias Alcantara - Associate Director of Intergovernmental Affairs for the White House Marlene Citron, JD - President and CEO of the Bronx Overall Economic Development Corporation Michael Max Knobbe - Executive Director of Bronxnet Lehman L.I.F.E. (Leaders Involved for Everyone) Service-Learning opportunities are designed to raise students’ awareness of issues and needs existing in local and global communities, and to foster effective action through volunteer work. The cycle of service continues and expands as students bring their experiences back to benefit their own communities, in the Bronx and the greater New York City area. Lehman L.I.F.E. gives students from the Bronx and NYC-area the opportunity to make a difference in the world that they never thought possible. Our annual Global Citizenship Gala is an important fundraising component. Lehman L.I.F.E. students do not receive college credit or funding for their service trips, which this year will cost over $75,000 in total. We now have our biggest cohort of students ever! Fifty-five students will be spending their spring/summer break partnering with grassroots leaders in Nicaragua building homes with Bridges to Community, serving in the Dominican Republic at a school for children with disabilities and victims of human trafficking, as well as India teaching English and educating the community on public health. We will also be volunteering with undocumented migrant farm workers in Apopka, FL and to El Progreso and traveling to Honduras to build schools with Students Helping Honduras. Please consider the options listed on our gala website (http://www.lehman.edu/globalgala) when choosing to support our Second Annual Global Citizenship Gala.

90's R&B Soul: IT FEELS GOOD!
8:00 PM - 10:30 PM

Featuring Mint Condition and Tony! Toni! Toné! Hosted by Shaila from WBLS Mint Condition generated some buzz, but it wasn't until Washington D.C.'s WHUR-FM (Howard University's famed college radio station) broke the follow-up ballad, 1991's "Breakin' My Heart (Pretty Brown Eyes)" that the band experienced their first runaway smash. "Breakin'" peaked at number three on Billboard's R&B chart and number six in Pop's top ten, remaining on the charts for 34 weeks. After that, two other stellar albums—From the Mint Factory and Definition of a Band— and a chain of hit singles followed, including "Forever In Your Eyes," "U Send Me Swingin," "Someone to Love," So Fine," "You Don't Have to Hurt No More," and "What Kind of Man Would I Be." Tony! Toni! Toné! exploded out of Oakland in 1988 with their debut album Who? which spawned the hit "Little Walter." In 1990, to both critical and popular acclaim, their second album The Revival garnered four No.1 Billboard hits including "Feels Good," "Whatever You Want," "The Blues," and "It Never Rains (In Southern California)" which all went Platinum.
