Event Description:
“Writing and thriving in Irish: novelist Anna Heussaff’s guide to contemporary Irish language writing”

Tuesday, 2 April 2019 – 2:00pm-3:15pm

Lehman College, CUNY – Music Building, Room 313

Irish as a spoken language has long been in a precarious position – and yet in recent decades over 500 living writers have published novels, plays, poetry collections, children’s books, travel writing and much else. This lecture is an illustrated introduction to some of the best of them and how they take on the challenges of writing for a minority language readership.

Anna Heussaff spent many years working in radio and television in Ireland before she took to creative writing. Her books include crime novels for fluent adult readers of Irish and mystery novels for young teens attuned to both screen games and environmental threats. She lives in Dublin, where she grew up as an Irish speaker.
