Other Details: Indian Classical music is about presentation of raaga-s. Raaga-s are sources of melody - both its generation and organization. They can be described superficially by drawing attention to the scale - a set of notes that are used in the ascent and descent. But there is much more to ragas than the scale - ornaments, phrases, motifs... Here are performances of Bhoop (also called Bhoopali) in the North Indian classical Music traditions or Hindustani Music and of Mohanam in the South Indian tradition or Carnatic Music. The scale associated with the ragas is the major pentatonic (all natural notes without the fourth and the seventh degrees). |
