All Day | Virtual Reality Training Academy (Multi-Day Event)
The Virtual Reality Training Academy teaches the skills needed to create Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality applications for industry and education covering many diverse fields, including: architecture, product visualization, game creation, multimedia design, and broadcast media.
Come and network with your peers and know more about our next VR program starting in spring 2020. You will have the chance to speak to the instructor(s) and former participants. A 15-week/180 hour course, on immersive media. Composed of eight modules, the course will focus on the Unity platform as the means to developing content for Augmented and Virtual Reality. Students will receive a Lehman College certificate and badge. | |

3:00 PM - 6:00 PM | Intro to Unity Platform After a short introduction to the history of virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR), Unity’s interface, asset store and customization features will be discussed. You will be able to follow along on available computers or on your own device. While Unity can be used for development on a wide array of platforms, emphasis will be placed on VR and projects will be built for the HTC Vive which will be available to you. Prerequisites: being comfortable navigating computer systems and new computer technology. | |
3:00 PM - 5:00 PM | (Cancelled) Meet the Innovators Series: The Science of Wellness
The "Meet the Innovators Series" is a new string of lectures at Lehman College featuring the latest research in the biological sciences from some of Lehman's top educators and scholars. Professor Stephen Redenti, an expert on retina damage and repair, and Professor Andrea Boyar, who specializes in health and nutrition, will inaugurate the first lecture, titled "Science of Wellness."
Redenti teaches biology and biochemistry in the Biology Department. His talk is tilted "Vision Repair: Photoreceptor Replacement to Restore Vision," and it will focus on therapeutic strategies for damaged retinas. In his lab, he explores cellular communication involved in the development and regeneration of retinal and other central nervous system tissue.
Boyar is an associate professor in Lehman's Department of Health Science, leading its dietetics, foods, and nutrition program. "Cancer and Nutrition—Can What You Eat Decrease Your Risk of Cancer?" is the title of her talk. Her research is in the area of nutrition and disease prevention.
