Event Description:
The "Meet the Innovators Series" is a new string of lectures at Lehman College featuring the latest research in the biological sciences from some of Lehman's top educators and scholars. Professor Stephen Redenti, an expert on retina damage and repair, and Professor Andrea Boyar, who specializes in health and nutrition, will inaugurate the first lecture, titled "Science of Wellness."
Redenti teaches biology and biochemistry in the Biology Department. His talk is tilted "Vision Repair: Photoreceptor Replacement to Restore Vision," and it will focus on therapeutic strategies for damaged retinas. In his lab, he explores cellular communication involved in the development and regeneration of retinal and other central nervous system tissue.
Boyar is an associate professor in Lehman's Department of Health Science, leading its dietetics, foods, and nutrition program. "Cancer and Nutrition—Can What You Eat Decrease Your Risk of Cancer?" is the title of her talk. Her research is in the area of nutrition and disease prevention.
