Event Description: The Women's Studies Program presents the First Spring Lecture Series entitled "The Michael Field Diary Project: Archival Transcription in the Classroom" by Olivia Loksing Moy, Ph.D., Assistant Professor, English Director, English Honors Program on Wednesday, February 19, 2020, at 12:30 pm - 2:00 pm in Carman Hall, Room 221.
This lecture presents the joint faculty-student research between Professor Olivia Loksing Moy (English Department) and The CUNY Rare Book Scholars, a group of Lehman College undergraduates who transcribed over five hundred pages of the journals of the nineteenth-century writers Michael Field.
Surprising to many, Michael Field was not a male author from the Victorian period, but rather the joint pseudonym for the aunt and niece couple, Katharine Harris Bradley (1846 - 1914) and Edith Emma Cooper (1862 - 1913). Bradley and Cooper were romantic partners, housemates, and co-authors who produced over forty collections of poems and verse plays at the height of British Aestheticism. Recounting their interactions with notable artists of the period, including Oscar Wilde, William Butler Yeats, Algernon Charles Swinburne, Charles Ricketts, and Walter Pater.
