Event Description:
The Lehman College and Community Band will give its final performance of the spring season on Sunday, May 20, at 7 p.m. in the Lovinger Theatre. This free event is titled “Summer’s Coming,” and will feature a mix of popular selections for wind band the entire family can enjoy, including the seasonal favorite Fiesta! by Philip Sparke, and the rousing Semiramide Overture by Gioacchino Rossini.
The band will also perform in its entirety a contemporary Classical work, the colorful and dramatic Symphony No. 3 for Band by Vittorio Giannini. Michael Sweeney’s lively Blue Mambo will be featured, as well as two familiar Hollywood-inspired selections: the title theme from Around the World in 80 Days by Victor Young, and a medley of Harold Arlen’s songs from the Wizard of Oz.
Rounding out the program will be a special performance by the winner of the 2018 Jerome Sala Memorial Competition, oboe soloist Miranda Margulies-Ohnuma, who will perform Haydn’s Oboe Concerto, accompanied by the band.
Directed by Professor Alan Hollander, the Lehman College and Community Band includes Lehman students, alumni, faculty, staff and community members.
