New York City Human Library/Call for Participants

Lehman College's Leonard Lief Library is partnering with the New York City Human Library [https://www.humanlibrarynyc.org/] for an online Human Library event:

  • Sunday, January 24, 2021
  • 2:00 - 4:00 PM
  • Zoom

What is the Human Library?
The Human Library is an organization that began in Denmark in 2000 and now has chapters [called Depots] all over the world.  In a Human Library, real people are “Books” on loan to Readers, giving Readers the opportunity to listen to their stories first-hand.

Human Library NYC public events break down social barriers by providing a safe platform for individuals to challenge their own stereotypes and prejudices.

If you would like to register to be a
Book or a Reader - please fill out this Interest Form:

What is a Book in the Human Library?

Book is a volunteer who represents a stigmatized group, willing to share their story, and help challenge what is being shared and understood about their topic.

What is a Reader?

Reader is curious about the Book, can ask questions of the Book, and is respectful of the Book they are reading.

Your Story is Important.

CONCERT - Que Pique el Invierno: Let the Winter be HOT!
The Lehman College and Community Latin Jazz Ensemble will celebrate the holiday season with a cabaret-concert program called “Que Pique el Invierno: Let the Winter be HOT!” along with a dance workshop on SUNDAY, DECEMBER 16 in the Music Building on campus. Admission is free; donations are welcome.
“Que Pique el Invierno: Let the Winter be HOT!” will begin at 2 p.m. with Lehman Professor Martin Muntzel leading a mambo dance workshop that is open to all. Afterwards, the Latin Jazz Ensemble will perform an uptempo program that will include well-known compositions by Ray Barretto, George Harrison, Otis Redding, and others.

The Lehman College and Community Latin Jazz Ensemble, comprised of students, alumni, faculty, staff, and community members, is co-directed by veteran Latin jazz musicians Victor Rendón and Armando Rodríguez, both adjunct faculty members at Lehman College. Among the featured performers will be vocalists Felix Otero, José González, Dena Robins, and Lehman music student Kevin I. Alvelo, along with student trumpet soloist Jesus Morel.

Refreshments will be available at the event, with sales benefitting Lehman L.I.F.E. scholarships.
And the dance floor will be open—come join the celebration!
