Other Details:
The Lehman College and Community Band will open its 2019-2020 season with “Autumn Perspective,” a musical snapshot of the fall featuring works by Giroux, Harty, Hellmesberger, Shostakovitch, Strauss, Ticheli, Verdi, and others on SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 17 at 2:00 p.m. in the Lovinger Theater. The concert is open to the public. Admission is free; donations are welcome.
On the program will be two overtures: Giuseppe Verdi’s dramatic Sicilian Vespers, and Johann Strauss’ mirthful Die Fledermaus. In contrast will be Frank Ticheli’s soulful arrangement of the Scottish folk tune Loch Lomond (You Take the High Road) and Impressions by contemporary wind band composer Julie Giroux.
Also included will be two orchestral excerpts: the spritely “Fair-Day” from Hamilton Harty’s Irish Symphony, and the unusual early modern “Scherzo” and “Finale” from Dmitri Shostakovitch’s Symphony No. 5.
Rounding out the program will be two lively dance selections: Joseph Hellmesberger’s Gypsy Dance, and Danzas Cubanas by Robert Sheldon.
