Lecture: “Lyric Dwelling: The Art and Ethics of Invitation and Occupation”
Start Date: 2/19/2014Start Time: 12:30 PM
End Date: 2/19/2014End Time: 2:00 PM

Event Description:

Poet, vocalist, and theorist Gina Rae Foster (director, Lehman Teaching & Learning Commons) considers the interplay between home and lyric as hospitable processes of human becoming. “Lyric,’ Foster claims, “in its relationality and self-reflection, in its contextualization and capacity to decontextualize its presence, activates capacities of identity, responsibility, and territory in the poet/composer and performer/audience as well as in the temporo-spatiality it soothes and disrupts.” In this lecture, the lyric web in music, poetry, experimental cinema, and theater will be explored through phenomenological and neo-materialist approaches to aesthetics as well as recent contributions to the studies of co-performance and polyrhythm.

All lectures will take place in the Women Studies conference room in Carman Hall, Room 221 from 12:30-2:00
