Event Description:
All students, faculty and staff are enthusiastically invited to an event in the Social Justice Speakers Series.
When They Saw Them: The New York Press Corps, Racism and the Central Park Five
Yusef Salaam, one of the men exonerated in the Central Park Five case, will be in conversation with Jim Dwyer, Pulitzer prize-winning New York Times columnist and author of Actual Innocence: When Justice Goes Wrong and How to Make It Right. They'll reflect on the Netflix series When They See Us, discuss racism and the news and entertainment media, consider how true stories are told and twisted and take student questions on a wide variety of topics.
The event is sponsored by the Social Justice Speakers Series, the Office of the Provost, the Office of Student Life, the Student Government Association, the Lehman chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists, City and Humanities and the Department of Journalism and Media Studies.
