The Women's Studies Program Second Fall Lecture Series Presentation
Start Date: 10/23/2019Start Time: 12:30 PM
End Date: 10/23/2019End Time: 2:00 PM

Event Description:
The Women's Studies Program Second Fall Lecture Series presents "Not Dead Yet: Lydia Ginzburg, Hitler, Stalin and Russian Structuralism" by Dr. Karin Beck, Associate Dean, School of Arts & Humanities and Dept. of Laguages and and Literatures. From September, 1941 to January, 1944, Leningrad was under siege by the German Army.  In her fictional memoirs of this time, the writer and literary critic Lydia Ginzburg (1902-1990), shows how despite the grueling brutality of the siege, the citizens of Leningrad kept their sense of humanity by continually remembering their culture, especially their literary heritage.
The talk will introduce the person Lydia Ginzburg, who defied both Hitler and Stalin and has almost been forgotten by literary history because she did not fit into dominant patterns and expectations.
