Event Description:
BRONX, NY—The Lehman College Community Band will celebrate the fall season with “Autumn Acorns,” a free concert featuring a cornucopia of music from around the world. This performance, which is free open to the public, will take place on Sunday, October 26, at 2 p.m. in the Lovinger Theatre, on the Lehman College campus.
Directed by Professor Alan Hollander, the program will feature the romantic and captivating Overture to Oberon by Carl Maria von Weber, in contrast with Ottorino Respighi’s masterfully orchestrated, dark and dramatic Pines of the Appian Way. The centerpiece of the program will be Adam Gorb’s Awayday, an exhilarating and often frantic modern work. Also to be performed are Second Century March by Alfred Reed, Fete-Dieu a Seville (Feast Day in Seville) a colorful depiction of a peasant’s walk on a religious feast day by Isaac Albéniz, and an eclectic trio of songs from William Walton’s Façade, originally written to accompany a cycle of poems by Edith Sitwell. Rounding out the program will be Alexandre Guilmant’s Morceau Symphonique, featuring baritone horn soloist Walter Barrett.
The Lehman College Community Band includes students, alumni, faculty, staff, and community members. |
