Event Description: Lehman College will host a panel discussion, followed by a question and answer session to raise awareness and address concerns about the upcoming 2020 Census. Administered once every decade, the Census is mandated by the U.S. Constitution for the purpose of counting its population. An accurate count is essential as it determines federal funding for schools, health care, and children's services, as well as representation in Congress.
Moderators:
David Charcape, chair, Lehman College Census Committee
Kassandra Montes '20, philosophy major, SGA vice president for internal affairs
Panelists:
The Honorable Marcos A. Crespo, New York State Assembly member
Jose Higuera Lopez, deputy director, Mexican Studies Institute, CUNY
Dr. Jennifer Laird, asst. prof. sociology, Lehman College
Maria E. Matos, partnership specialist—Bronx area, New York Regional Census Center, U.S. Census Bureau
