| Women's Studies Fall Lecture Series 12:30 PM - 2:00 PM
Professor Jessica McCormack, Adjunct Assistant Professor, from the Department of Philosophy will speak on "Victoria Welby: Significs and its Significance" as part of the Women's Studies Fall Lecture Series. Lady Victoria Welby is a pragmatist philosopher, and contemporary to the three philosophers widely regarded to be the central classical pragmatists: C.S. Pierce, William James, and John Dewey. Despite her substantive publications and extensive correspondence Welby has been largely omitted in discussions of classical pragmatism. This talk will argue that Welby deserves much attention and that her contributions are relevant even to contemporary discussions of language and meaning. |
