The Cost of Professionalization in Dietetics: White Feminism or Racism?
Kate G. Burt, PhD, RDN
Assistant Professor & Undergraduate Program Director, Dietetics, Food & Nutrition Program
Dr. Burt will examine the history of how women’s work in the kitchen became formalized as a profession at the expense of women of color. Throughout the last 100 years, diet recommendations and the profession as a whole reflect privilege and a normativity of whiteness, which continues to blame, subjugate, and marginalize people of color. To achieve health equity, we must stop using shaming rhetoric that perpetuates a racist dietary health and food system.
