John Corigliano 80th Birthday Celebration Concert

Tickets are now on sale through Brown Paper Tickets for the Lehman College concert celebration of John Corigliano on the occasion of his 80th birthday, which takes place on Thursday, February 22 at 7 p.m. Tickets for this fundraising event are priced at $50, $25, and $10 for CUNY students with ID. (Free admission for Lehman students.)

In celebration of the 80th birthday of renowned composer and Distinguished Professor John Corigliano, Lehman College of The City University of New York will host a special concert that will include three acclaimed guest artists: violinist Lara St. John and pianists Martin Kennedy and Stephen Gosling. The concert is open to the public and will serve as a fundraiser for the John Corigliano Scholarship Fund. The three musicians will be performing works for violin and piano, including a work for two pianos tuned a ¼ tone apart.

One of six Distinguished Professors at Lehman College, John Corigliano is a winner of the Pulitzer Prize for Music (2001), five Grammy Awards and an Academy Award (2000). Among his most many notable compositions are Symphony No. 1 (1988); Symphony No. 2 for string orchestra (2000); Mr. Tambourine Man: Seven Poems of
Bob Dylan; the score for François Girard’s film The Red Violin (1998); and an opera entitled The Ghosts of Versailles (1991), the recording of which earned Corigliano another Grammy Award last year (in the Best Classical Recording category.)

Resistance: Beyond Walls and Borders
Join us for a a day-long program examining the issue of mass incarceration, political prisoners and repression. It will include a morning and afternoon film viewing and panel discussion with Lehman Faculty, activists from the 1960s, and others impacted by mass incarceration. Voices from Inside and Outside the Prison Walls
Lehman College will host a special evening with graduates of the Rehabilitation Through the Arts program. Join us for a screening of the documentary film, "Dramatic Escape." The film transports viewers into the lives of a group of maximum security prisoners who are attempting to mount a behind-bars stage and candid accounts of the crimes that landed them in prison are interwoven with everyday struggles and philosophical considerations of the nature of redemption.

This event is sponsored by the Lehman College Re-entry Committee, The School of Education, and the Office for Student Life and Student Government Assoc.

An Evening with André Aciman

Distinguished author and Lehman alumnus André Aciman [‘73] has generously consented to conduct a Reading and discussion as a Benefit for Friends of the Library.

Please join us for this special evening – celebrated in conjunction with Lehman College’s Alumni Relations.

André Aciman is Distinguished Professor at CUNY Graduate Center’s Comparative Literature Doctoral program and Director of its Writers’ Institute.

He is author of the novels Enigma Variations, Harvard Square, Eight White Nights, and Call Me by Your Name [recently made into a feature film], the memoir Out of Egypt, Alibis: Essays on Elsewhere, and False Papers: Essays on Exile and Memory.

Aciman is recipient of a Whiting Writers’ Award, Guggenheim Fellowship, and a fellowship from New York Public Library’s Cullman Center for Scholars and Writers. His work has appeared in the New York Times, New Yorker, New York Review of Books, New Republic, Paris Review - as well as in several volumes of The Best American Essays.
